witch potion halloween cocktails;
Looking for something fun to make this Halloween special? COVID might have put a damper on typical trick-or-treating, but that doesn’t mean we can’t spice up the night with these Halloween cocktails. These cocktails are so festive and fun, especially when served in potion bottles! All the bottles for these cocktails I acquired from Michael’s! I’ll break down the bottles, the cocktails, and include some mocktail alternatives too! It wouldn’t be fair to leave the kids out, because these drinks are so fun.
We all know Halloween is more than just trick-or-treating—it’s a state of mind. With five different options, you’re sure to find a Halloween cocktail perfect for you. Plus the potion bottles double as cute decor and can be reused, just make sure to clean them out well.

Full nerd alert—my idea for these actually stemmed for a Dungeons and Dragons session. But they’re perfect for Halloween cocktails too! Back before COVID, we had a session where I conspired with my husband the Dungeon Master to make potions! He worked it into the storyline, and I got to experiment with these cute bottles and recipes. I’ve adapted the original recipes to make these gorgeous Halloween cocktails. It included dropping a few boring recipes and updating a couple to make them even tastier.
I was going for variety here, both in colors and flavors and I think the final product is gorgeous! You’re sure to find something suited to your tastes, and I offer a lot of swaps and non-alcoholic options where I can. This can still be a Halloween treat as mocktails for little mouths or those who don’t feel like drinking. The only one I haven’t tried myself as a mocktail is the Elixer of the Night. But the other four have easy swaps. And by easy I mean, just drop the liquor from the recipe or swap out one ingredient and voila! Fun for the whole family.
Liquid Luck
This recipe is gorgeous. The swirling golden elixer is super fun to play with. Made with a golden simple syrup, this apple-cider based cocktail is perfectly autumnal. There’s a ton of options here for you to choose from. Make your own apple pie moonshine if you’re going hard on the alcohol. Use apple cider for a quick and easy mocktail. Or combine apple cider with your favorite liquor for an easily accessible alcoholic option. Plus I share a fun twist if you want to make this cocktail SPICY!
Phoenix Breath
This raspberry and cherry potion is gorgeous, and equally delicious. It requires a little bit of a light hand to achieve the desired layer effect, but I’ll walk you through the steps so don’t be put off! It goes down easy…sometimes a little too easy if you know what I mean! But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, you’ll be the hit of the party with this Halloween cocktail!
Dragon’s Milk
Simple but delicious. And chocolate. You know I couldn’t skip out on my chocolate lovers out there! Deliciously simple, you’ll be sipping on this all night. (Which is good because I find it’s rough on the stomach to jump back to soda or juice after a milk-based cocktail.) This rich deliciousness can be served hot or cold, making it a versatile recipe.
Elixir of the Night
This dark and moody cocktail embodies Halloween. In color maybe, but with a bright, fun, tropical flavor sure to surprise! This Halloween Cocktail is all Halloween business up front, party in the back. Despite it’s dark colors, you’ll get a taste of the island. This is the only recipe that doesn’t offer a mocktail option because I haven’t explicitly tested the layering effect with different ingredients. You could try yourself, or always just mix the blue and red for a deep dark purple concoction that embodies the night.
Witches’ Brew
If you’re not a huge fan of very sweet drinks, Witches’ Brew might be for you! And it might make you rhyme. Just kidding, I’ve only had a couple of these guys while writing this post. Green is the classic witch color, and this sour apple flavor is based on an appletini. It’s fun and only requires two ingredients. Check out the recipe below!
