introducing the tipsy life!
While the blog you know and love has always been primarily a food blog, I’m happy to announce that I’m expanding my topics to include more than just food! Don’t worry, tipsychocochip will still primarily be focused on food, and I still plan to have food recipes and share my love of food with you on Fridays as always! But recently I’ve been very focused on organizing–my house, my life, my work…things are getting crazy! So the new “the tipsy life” corner of this blog is to share with you my experiences, research, and thoughts in the hopes that you’ll join me for this tipsy thing called life! I’d love to hear your opinions and ideas, and I’m always on the lookout for ways to enjoy life and make the everyday a little less crazy!
Recently I reached a point where I was feeling excessively busy and overwhelmed by the mundane of every day. I got a promotion at work at the beginning of this year (whoo!) and with it has come a lot more work and moving pieces that can sometimes be overwhelming (boo!). My fiancé Tyler has been traveling for his work 4 days a week, every week–that’s literally the majority of the week we spend apart! And while it’s great for his career, it’s been hard to keep up with being there for our adorable Shiba Kenichi, cleaning the house, staying organized, and getting things done! Not to mention, say, planning a wedding? (October is creeping up so fast, guys!). Plus I love getting my workout on by playing volleyball and barre classes, and I also love giving back through volunteering with two organizations close to my heart: Kappa Alpha Theta and DC Shiba Inu Rescue. For Theta, I’m the advisor to 5 undergraduate marketing officers, and for DC SIR I help with their social media marketing! And of course I love sharing recipes and all things food with you guys on this blog! Phew, anyone overwhelmed just from reading that list? Clearly there are a lot of moving pieces in my life right now, and so I’ve decided to try to do something about it and share that here!
In considering my crazy life list, I realized that this reminded me of the last time I was stressed and overwhelmed–college. My freshman year of college was interesting: living on my own, being entirely in charge of my own schedule, all the classwork (7am calc!), having to make friendships from scratch when I had grown up with friends for my entire life! The thing that helped me then? A planner. A simple thing, the one I used in college was a free planner my mom got from her work and didn’t use. But it made such a difference to know at a glance what my classes were for the day, what extra-curriculars I had, when I was working, and when I had time to slack off.
I still use a planner now–so what’s the difference? I flipped through my planner to see that I wasn’t using it nearly as much as I had in the past. I no longer needed to schedule ever-changing classes or meet with classmates for projects and half the pages were blank. Instead I work a steady 8-4, and when I was using my planner it was to slap 6″ sticky notes over the planner I had paid for to write down massive To-Do lists! In college it was time management for scheduled blocks of time and making sure I was where I needed to be at that time. Nowadays my life revolves much more around a never ending to-do list where certain things need to get done by a date, but some have no due dates at all and I can’t cram it all into one day or one week or even one month.
So I started researching new planners and grew increasingly frustrated and unable to find a solution that worked for me. So I decided that maybe instead I could mix and match and create what I needed! More details on my planner solutions will come in a separate post, but that opened a door to organizing the house, sharing more than just food on my travels, and so many other things that I want to share and hope a few people might even find useful in their own lives!
So thus, I introduce you to “the tipsy life” corner of my blog, because life is crazy and wonderful and overwhelming all at once, (and sometimes the tipsy comes from too much wine or one too many margaritas, but hey, who’s counting?). Cheers to the tipsy lives of us all and I hope you’ll follow my journey and share your own stories and solutions and pictures with me too! Check out new series and posts on Tuesdays! First up, my planner series! Check out the first post: finding a planner that worked for me;
