winery review: big cork
I wasn’t sure what I was going to think of Big Cork when we went. A friend highly recommended the place to us, so we were excited, but upon pulling up to the property my first thought was: name don’t lie, this place is BIG. I don’t have a huge bias against big or corporate wineries, just simply that some of our favorites are smaller wineries like Mediterranean Cellars (review). It was starting to get dark, on a slightly cloudy day, so the pictures aren’t quite what I’d like. But this place was cool! Very spacious and open, but also a little quirky while still being commercially forward.
The bar is to the right when you come in, where we did our tasting, and to the left is a little lounge area with food for purchase, and some seating tables inside. We grabbed some cheese and meats to go with the Cabernet Sauvignon we got a glass of after the tasting. We would definitely like to come back, especially in fairer weather and take advantage of the huge patio area. They also offer cigars to purchase, although we have an outstanding date with two friends to come back and just chill. Definitely check it out!
We went close to closing, and it was the last stop of the day for us, so I would like to give it another go before I make a final decision. For the first time, and being a little rushed from our own timing, I’d give it a 4 out of 5 chips (read: stars). I would love to check out one of their afternoon tours next time!
