Happy New Year, and a new year deserves a chocolatey close to the last year, right? Except that we’re already almost done with February, whoops. Time just gets away from me, especially around the holidays. But I figure there’s never a bad time for a round-up of truffles recipes! Every holiday season I always have to have a mix of old classics and try out some new ones in the hopes of finding some new faves. They’d also be great for Valentine’s Day if you want to put a little homemade spin on the traditional chocolate gifting in February. Here’s…

Merry Christmas (and Happy Holidays) to all! And to all a chocolatey night! Those are the best kinds of nights aren’t they? Here’s the wrap-up for this year to keep track of this year’s round of yummies! 2017 Features: [New!] maple bacon milk chocolate truffles Free dipped truffles with a creamy maple bacon center and sprinkled with bacon and salt The centers would be for molds, but I kinda like the salty bacony topping on the free-dipped truffles [New!] cinna-bun white chocolate truffles A slightly crunchy cinnamon cookie and cream cheese center makes for a wonderful bite of a cinnamon…

Maple bacon is one of those trendy flavors right now and I have to say I don’t hate it. I’ve never been a huge maple person, especially next to say, my sister who could eat maple candies until the trees came home–that is to say, forever. Though she is particular about authenticity. In this case, unfortunately, I found that real maple syrup doesn’t add enough of an intense maple kick, so I had to out and spring for maple extract. Really, there’s not a good substitute. Potentially you might be able to concentrate traditional maple syrup by boiling it down,…

Let’s kick off chocolate truffle season! I have big plans for this season, because I have some tried and true truffles and I want to try out some new recipes! Plus I have various molds, so I’m actually looking to make assortments for Christmas gifts. My current plan is for a sampler that includes: matcha green tea white chocolate, dulche de leche cups, orange dark chocolate, and raspberry dark chocolate. Other contenders include: peanut butter, eggnog, red wine, cake batter, and mocha truffles. I want a good variety, but I also want to make things I’ll eat, so we’ll see what I end up with.…

This is part two of the Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant review, focusing on the winery! Read part one here. There was just too much to throw into one post so I wanted to separate out the two to do them each justice. When you first walk into the Ashburn, VA location, you walk into the winery. There’s some cute novelty wine items in the front, including some entertaining wine pourers featuring a variety of animals, and also some zombies. All of the stoppers pour from the subjects mouths are are quite festive. They use their pourers at the bar,…

This jazz festival event is apparently annual at Lake Anne out in Reston, VA, though this is the first time I’ve gone. We went as part of our awesome labor day weekend, the same one that brought you posts on Reese’s peanut butter bars, and MD Renaissance Festival. It was a crazy weekend packed full of everything: breweries, a wine tasting, the jazz festival, an escape room, dinner at a hot pot restaurant, the renaissance fair, and a ton of board games! The reason we even went out to Lake Anne was because I had heard of a chocolate and wine…

So here comes the wonderful-ness of cake batter and chocolate. Seriously, who needs an oven? Basically this is cake batter cookie dough wrapped in the sweet shell of chocolate. I made these truffles for a co-worker’s birthday. He really wanted me to make this awesome birthday cake recipe from momofuku’s milkbar, however, since this is the week before Christmas, there was no way I was going to slave over that recipe on the busiest week I’ve had in a while (which includes the ones around Thanksgiving that I whined about in my last post. <3). I’ve been up late every…
