    winery review: mediterranean cellars;

    August 26, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    Here it is!  I know I’ve been promising this post forever, back from when T’s parents came to visit and we stopped by quattro goomba winery (read the review), and america eats tavern (read the review).  Mediterranean Cellars is really one of our favorite wineries.  I’ve discovered a love of wineries through a friend that I went to college with, R.  He works at The Winery at La Grange out in Haymarket where he grew up, and he’s taken us around to some of his favorite other wineries in the area over the three years I’ve been in Virginia.  Mediterranean Cellars is definitely a…

  • 100th post menus!

    August 19, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    Can you believe that I’ve made it to my 100th post?  I can’t.  It was almost a year ago that I started tipsychocochip, and almost 3 years ago that I really started cooking for myself and exploring cooking and baking.  It’s amazing how time flies!  I feel like I’ve finally gotten into a groove with posting: at least two recipes a week, typically Monday & Wednesday, and then a review post on Friday.  When I started I really just posted willy-nilly as I made stuff, but that was taking up a lot of my time.  I’m sure my readers don’t really…

    So I know I promised you my review on Mediterranean Cellars in my post last week about quattro goomba winery, but I’ve elected to postpone that post in favor of a shout out to the place in Baltimore that we had dinner for J’s bachelorette party!  I figured that was a little more timely, and besides, I wanted to dish on some of the details of the weekend.  So keep an eye out for that Mediterranean Cellars post, I promise it’s coming! I’ve known J for what’s going on 6 years–wow can you imagine?  We met through our sorority in college, but at Bucknell…

    winery review: quattro goomba winery;

    August 5, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    Quattro Goomba’s Winery was the second stop on our day out with T’s parents a few weekends ago.  The first being Mediterranean Cellars-tune in next friday for my review of it!  T and I had visited Quattro Goomba’s another time earlier, for DC SIR’s anniversary party.  It was a nice winery, made especially nice by all the shiba inus roaming around!  But this time it was so hot, I was sweating through my clothes! Quattro Goomba’s actually has both a winery and a brewery, although I have yet to actually try the brewery.  As if that wasn’t enough, they even have a restaurant!…

    So let me tell you about this past weekend!  I know we’re almost at this weekend, but I’m about to travel up to my parents for the weekend, and last weekend was a ton of fun!  T’s parents came to visit, which is always a good time. We really packed this weekend full of fun stuff, so I think I’ll be writing about this one particular weekend for a while!  We started off Friday with a trip to Artie’s, a restaurant that has been here for over 20 years, actually since his parents used to live in the area.  They were…

    July 22, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    It’s funny that sometimes I look at my own posts, and I realize that my favorites–either recipes, or reviews–don’t have posts yet. It makes sense in the grand scheme of things since I only started less than a year ago, but it’s funny to me that some of T’s and my’s favorite places don’t have dedicated posts. On the one hand they’re fun and local, but on the other we go there often enough that I feel like I shouldn’t take pictures every single time. So today, you get a post about a local hangout of ours–Mad Fox Brewery!  It’s…

  • Review of Great Shoals Winery @ bestwithchocolate.com

    winery review: great shoals winery;

    July 10, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    Yesterday was an amazing summer day!  Beautiful outside, and definitely hot, but not so horrible in the shade.  Definitely would have needed some sunscreen if we didn’t camp out at some nice picnic benches at great shoals winery!  I’ve wanted to try out this winery for a while since it’s pretty much smack between where I live and Baltimore, where we have a number of friends!  However today was so gorgeous and we were in the area anyway shopping for fabric for my bridesmaid dress (J’s wedding is only 3 months away!!!  It’s so close!), so groupon in hand, we trekked…

    Chicago: Deep Dish Pizza, Yum

    July 6, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    I just got back from Chicago and wanted to share all the culinary highlights!  It was a great trip, although my face was having none of the back of forth of humid weather and super dry AC. But other than that it was a good trip!  Packed full, but not too full of you know what I mean, so that you actually get to enjoy relaxing away from work for a little while. Sometimes I feel like all my vacations nowadays just revolve around food. Just fill in the spaces to get to the next meal. Not that I’m complaining,…

    June 15, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    Note: Permanently closed, as of October 16, 2016 So this Sunday I finally got to try brunch at what I lovingly have dubbed “el fuegos” since Fuego Cocina y Tequileria is a bit of a mouthful. Especially after two margaritas and the tipsy has kicked in. And you might be scoffing at me–hah, two margaritas!–but let me tell you, their frozen margaritas (henceforth margs) typically have three shots of tequila in them and couple that with the salt and the amazing taste, and you’ve got yourself a tipsy brunch.  We started off with a round of apps: queso fondido, guacamole,…

  • Breakfast Pizza - Review of Chef Geoff's @ tipsychocochip.com

    brunch review: chef geoff’s;

    May 8, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    This weekend was an unexpected treat at chef geoff’s in Tyson’s Corner!  My friend K came down for the weekend from Baltimore and my local friend J came up with a variety of places to go–from the classics to the new!  Chef Geoff’s was first on the list, and after looking at the brunch menu, I was sold.  I didn’t even bother looking at the others.  The three of us had a wonderful breakfast, chatting about my J’s upcoming wedding! Before we got to the wedding talk, we had to decide what to eat!  And let me tell you, that was actually…

  • Kuterra Salmon - Review: Barrel & Bushel @ bestwithchocolate.com

    happy hour review: barrel & bushel;

    February 4, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    Tonight ended up being a somewhat impromptu date night!  I wanted to round out my gamecube controller selection–I’ve only ever had two controllers.  I always had game-geek friends that had extra controllers, so I never needed the full four.  So since we were headed out to the mall to grab extra controllers, and we decided to stop by Barrel & Bushel for dinner. Now T had called about an hour earlier, inquiring as to whether we would need a reservation if we came in around 7, and whoever he spoke to said sure, no problem.  When we got there, they informed us it…

  • "Crack" Popcorn - Review: Copperwood Tavern

    January 31, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

    So this is my first review post, and you might be wondering why I’m taking my food blog down this route.  The short answer is that I love some of the restaurants in the VA/DC area, and I simply wanted to record some of those places for my own personal easy reference when a friend comes in town or if I feel like T and I have been stuck in a rut restaurant-wise.  If I continue to do this in the future, I will definitely need to take more photos though! The longer answer is that I was somewhat inspired…
