So with Tyler’s crazy 4-days-a-week business trips, we’ve done much better on the date night front when he’s home! There’s still plenty of new places to explore, and Firebirds was on a recommended list by a coworker that lives in the area. It’s a cozy, somewhat swank place with a wide-variety of menu items. Plus they have happy hour every day (including weekends) and weekday happy hour goes until 7 which makes it ideal for date night! We did stick to the happy hour menu this time around, but I definitely would love to try full-fledged dinner sometime! We walked…

I’ve been meaning to make it up to Boston for some time to visit a few friends in the area, and it finally happened! It was a jam-packed weekend, but jam-packed with fun so it flew by. We were staying with my high school friend Peggy up by the Tufts campus, and got to explore the area, grab some lunch and ice cream, and also just hang out and catch up, which was really nice. Of course in typical Katie-Tyler(-Peggy) fashion we ended the night with margaritas! It was a sequence of early morning days which was a little draining, but…

My last St. Louis post was just from the first day! So I needed a part 2 to record the rest of our fun travels! Of course, we had to go see the Gateway Arch, which was pretty impressive, I’ve got to say. We saw the free movie about the engineering that went into this structure, and it makes you really appreciate engineering! 630ft tall, and made entirely of curved steel. More than that, they had to build the arch piecemeal, and it had to stand alone without being completed until they could add in the keystone piece. Pretty amazing when you…

Potomac Point Winery is down south of NoVA, rather than west like a lot of other wineries we frequent. We were actually looking at it as a possible wedding venue, though jury’s out if it’ll make the cut! It’s a gorgeous property, and not too bad to find. We’ll kick off the review with brunch: the food was delicious! Tyler and I were both starving after our wedding venue tour, so that probably added a few points in their favor. But the food we had was delicious! I went with a grilled chicken, pesto, and sweet pepper flatbread. It was…

So I’m finally going to share with you all the story of our engagement! It’s been a whirlwind few weeks as you can imagine–I can’t believe Tyler and I have only been engaged for 3 weeks! It’s amazing how time flies–I’ve already been looking at venues, and now we’ve also been looking at houses…so you can imagine how crazy it is around here! But let’s go back to the beginning. — I had zero idea. Absolutely none. Tyler and I have talked about the future pretty regularly, we’re both very clearly invested in our relationship, and saw ourselves together in the…

I wasn’t sure what I was going to think of Big Cork when we went. A friend highly recommended the place to us, so we were excited, but upon pulling up to the property my first thought was: name don’t lie, this place is BIG. I don’t have a huge bias against big or corporate wineries, just simply that some of our favorites are smaller wineries like Mediterranean Cellars (review). It was starting to get dark, on a slightly cloudy day, so the pictures aren’t quite what I’d like. But this place was cool! Very spacious and open, but also a little quirky…

This past weekend was packed full of fun! We finally made our way to the Baltimore Aquarium which has been on the bucket list for almost 3 years now. We originally had plans to grab dinner with friends, but they had something come up last minute, so we instead we called up our friends Karen and Tyler and did something else we’ve been chatting about forever–go to Heavy Seas Brewery for a tour! Mostly they walk you around, tell you about the hopps, the vats, the way they grind the grains, allow it to ferment, carbonate it and bottle it.…

Orchid Cellars is actually a meadery and winery! In the interest of not having a bajillion categories, I file this under winery with Ciderworks, even though they’re a little less traditionally “winery”. They’re both perfect stops to make on the Antietam wine trail to add a little something different to your outing! This little baby here (actually not so little anymore) is actually one of the first reasons we ventured up to the Antietam Wine Trail at all. A friend grew up in the area and frequented Orchid Cellars with his mom, and he used to bring back all varying…

So the other day was decreed “Tyler Day”! Or “& guest day”, as you can see above. He’s been really great recently helping out extra with the pup and supporting me when I have to work late or run around and I wanted to appreciate him in a full and lazy day! It was a pretty cold and rainy day, and so we decided to take the crazy pup to the dog park early and get it out of the way. There weren’t many people there, but he was suuuuuuuper into fetch and tuckered himself out perfectly! Then it was…

While most of the wineries we typically go to are out toward western Virginia, occasionally we’ll make the trek up to Maryland! There’s some nice places up there too, and specifically some unique places. The Orchid Cellar Meadery is one (post to come!) and Ciderworks is another! It makes the Antietam Wine Trail perfect to do a little tasting of all your favorite alcoholic beverages! I’ll save the mead and wine for other times, but Ciderworks is one of my favorites because it’s so unique. It reminds me a little of Great Shoals actually (read the review), because it’s not made…
