witches’ brew halloween cocktail;
This green and electric Halloween cocktail is sure to please. If green doesn’t scream witches brew to you, I don’t know what does. Green concoctions are the age-old trope. Even though a lot of foods are green, we’re talking electric and unnatural green. This cocktail hits the sweet spot. Not exactly a natural color green, but it’s not so grotesque you don’t want to drink it.
What I love about this cocktail is that it’s tart and not overly sweet. It’s refreshing.
Appletinis actually remind me of House Party in college, a week of concerts and bands and friends. We, the computer science majors, made appletinis every year and partied together. I don’t even remember why we picked appletinis but they were enough of a hit that we brought them back every year!
The potion bottle I used for this Halloween cocktail is tall and skinny, with a round and bulbous base. It holds around 4.5 oz or 125 ml by my count. To make the cocktail, you only need two ingredients, dekyuper green apple pucker and vodka. Of course, you can use any shape potion bottle, or even a glass. I just browsed at Michael’s for cute bottles and grabbed an assortment. No promotion here, just linking to the bottle itself if you’re keen to find the one I used. Ashland mini glass bottle, Medium.
To swap this out for a non-alcoholic alternative, your best bet is Mountain Dew. A little more yellow than green, but this Witches’ Brew cocktail is straight alcohol and packs a punch. Not for little stomachs, for sure. Mountain Dew is an electric, colorful, and easy swap for a Halloween mocktail. Of course, any green juice or liquid would do, so you can get creative. Try one of the green Naked juices, some limeade, or a mint chocolate smoothie. Just be careful with putting thicker liquids into the bottle. You want to keep it pretty thin so you don’t clog the spout and make these bottles a bigger nightmare to clean. Don’t let this Halloween cocktail turn into a scream!
Making individual cocktails for each guest might be crazy if you’re having a large party. In that case, I would pick your favorite one or two and make a big batch! Check out the secrets for success section below if you want to make a pitcher or big batch options. For a general Halloween party, especially if you’re going themed, don’t get too crazy. Party planning can be stressful, so stick to one or two cocktails. Or perhaps one cocktail and one mocktail to keep it manageable. How cute would it be to lay out a station or two with rows of the same potion-filled bottles?
Witches’ Brew is a good option because it’s relatively simple, and still festive. Especially since it has no bubblies (soda, or otherwise), you can easily make it ahead and store it in the fridge. Even better, mix it directly in a pitcher and just pull it out around party time! Or take the same pitcher and pour it into bottles right before guests arrive. Either way, it’s sure to be a hit at your party without a headache. And who doesn’t love fun, themed, Halloween cocktails? People will be sure to talk about your party for years to come!
Secrets for Success:
- To make a single glass, double the recipe. That’s 3 oz vodka and 6 oz dekyuper sour apple pucker.
- To make a whole batch, 24oz vodka (3 cups), 48oz (6 cups) dekyuper sour apple pucker. These measurements should make 8 glasses or enough to fill 16 of the same size potion bottles.
