winery review: molon lave;
Sister to one of our favorite wineries Mediterranean Cellars, Molon Lave has a much larger and commercial feel, with the perks of a small lake, rolling grounds and event space. The wines are different but still fall in the range of Greek-style offerings.

Here’s part two of our getaway weekend (read part 1 here)! I shared the first post this past weekend because we had such a good time I couldn’t keep it in! And so many people have asked us details on the place I thought it a good idea to elaborate and share the link! Head on over to the previous post to hear about Day 1 and the tiny house cabin we stayed in with our puppers Kenichi! We spent the first part of the morning hiking in Shenandoah down to see this gorgeous waterfall! It was a tough hike, but nothing we all couldn’t handle. Which I say, but we were all pretty pooped afterwards.
And of course we had to make a winery pit stop on the way home! We’ve been meaning to visit Molon Lave a long time, as it’s the sister to our favorite winery Mediterranean Cellars (read the review). The winemaker at Molon Lave is actually the son of the winemaker at Mediterranean, so you can imagine their wines are similar in their Greek style even if the wines themselves are quite different!
Having never been to Molon Lave before we opted for a tasting and got to try 8 of their wines and a bonus mulled wine! They had two whites which surprisingly didn’t do much for me, but I was quite taken with two of their reds: the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Merlot. The Cab Sauv just had such a great depth of flavor without being too dry, and the Merlot was surprisingly very fruit forward with a punch of cherry!
We ended up with glasses of the Cab Sauv (me) and the mulled wine (Tyler), and dog treats (Kenichi–no wine for him) as we enjoyed the patio! A very nice couple who lived in New Hampshire who were visiting relatives came to say hi to Kenichi and we chatted for a while, which was really nice after Tyler and I had only talked to each other (and we talked a LOT) the past 24 or so hours. Not that I’m complaining, =). It was just nice to get to know some new and interesting people! They were great around Kenichi too, which was a plus.
Overall rating 4 out of 5! Molon Lave is a gorgeous space, and I would love to come back in the summer when the vines are full of grapes and there’s less of a bite in the air, but in full honesty I think I slightly prefer Mediterranean’s wines and the slightly more intimate feel. Still, if you’re ever out this way, make time to stop and see for yourself!
