Yup, I said it. Apple. Pie. Moonshine. I’m putting this warning up-front and center: BE CAREFUL. THIS STUFF DOES NOT TASTE LIKE ALCOHOL. In the best way possible. It’s made with spyritus vodka, which is about the most alcoholic thing you can buy. Like period. It’s so alcoholic in fact, that you can’t buy it in VA, MD, or DC, but we had to travel up to NJ/NY area to find it. This recipe actually came from my sister’s friend Jesse, whose parents host of all of us crazy folk when we go to the PA bloomsburg fair (event review) every year! Which was perfect,…

These cinnamon puff sticks are a cute and extremely simple adornment to any dessert! For example, they make a cute addition to my previous reverse strawberry shortcake post! Or if you’re like me you’ll just want to snack on them straight out of the oven. They definitely have that extra bit of luxury when they’re warm and flaky and just–mmmm! I actually make these a lot whenever I have leftover puff pastry from other recipes, like salmon en croute (coming soon), and these are extremely similar to the churro cookies recipe I shared earlier. Just without the filling, and in stick form instead of circles!…

I know it’s only just barely fall and I feel like I’m pulling out all the fall-themed recipes already! I’m not actually doing it on purpose, I’m just enjoying the comfort food aspect of my slow cooker! And I thought these microwave cinnamon apples would pair amazingly with the crockpot chicken and stuffing recipe I posted last week (it’s a versatile recipe!), and when I didn’t have apples I was sad. So they stayed on my mind, and I made up for it by serving them with the everyday thanksgiving sandwich. A good sweet side dish, although I didn’t think to…

Let me just start this off answering the question on everyone’s mind–yes, this recipe is everything you want it to be! Another adventure stemming from my coworkers, though this time from a birthday rather than fresh-from-the-garden produce like baked jalapeño poppers. Since I like cooking and baking (whaaaat), a coworker’s birthday is always the perfect excuse to try out a new recipe! I do ask for a category or a few examples of what they like so that I have a starting place. How bad would everyone feel if I made something the birthday guy/gal didn’t like? That’s awkward for everyone. So…

Here’s recipe two from T’s and my’s Thursday night cinco de mayo dinner! Churro Cookies. Yes, they are just as glamorous as they sound. I promise. And actually, they’re amazingly simple. There’s–count ’em–only 6 ingredients! Now I don’t make these every day just because puff pastry is rather expensive (for cookie making), but let me tell you, they are like little bites of heaven. And while the round cookies are super cute and flaky, I absolutely do not throw away the strangely-shaped pieces! Bake them off and get the kids (or yourself–taste testing is a must!) to om nom the…

This grilled cinnamon pineapple is the perfect summer grilin’ recipe! Funny enough, it’s not summer as I write this, and there’s still a fair bit of snow of the ground. But with warm, toasty flavors, and just a slight bit of char on tangy sweet pineapple, it reminds me of summertime. Close enough, right? Grilled cinnamon pineapple is a great addition to any summertime BBQ menu. A healthful dessert that’s easy to prep and grill. A sweet ending to a lovely hot summer day, and so, so easy to make. This recipe is so simple it barely warrants a recipe.…

So I was supposed to have volleyball tonight. But lucky for you all, instead you get another recipe because it’s snowing and surprisingly dangerous for the less than 2″ of snow on the ground. But it’s that wet, slippery kind. I turned around before even going a mile to one of the major roads, and I passed at least 6 cars pulled over on the side of the road, and two in an accident right outside the complex. Jeez. And I don’t have an all-wheel drive vehicle, I have a sedan, but I also grew up in the Northeast and feel…

So let’s go with: I’m going to whip these out again one day and impress someone. They look amazing. They taste even more amazing. And you can pretend that they’re healthy (they’re not). I did forget to add that extra drizzle of caramel, but you know, that’s how these things go. I used McIntosh apples because that’s what I had lying around the house, and I wasn’t able to make the nice rings that the gunny sack described. Because my apples were softer, I just cut out from the center instead, making sure not to cut through the base.…
