Sicilian-style pizza at Quattro Goomba's Winery Review @ tipsychocochip.com

winery review: quattro goomba winery;

August 5, 2016Katie

Quattro Goomba’s Winery was the second stop on our day out with T’s parents a few weekends ago.  The first being Mediterranean Cellars-tune in next friday for my review of it!  T and I had visited Quattro Goomba’s another time earlier, for DC SIR’s anniversary party.  It was a nice winery, made especially nice by all the shiba inus roaming around!  But this time it was so hot, I was sweating through my clothes!

Quattro Goomba’s actually has both a winery and a brewery, although I have yet to actually try the brewery.  As if that wasn’t enough, they even have a restaurant!  The menu is quite as ranged as most restaurants, but you must try the pizza!  The first time we visited, our friend R happened to join us for a little and ordered a pizza.  It looked so good, we decided to take T’s parents to try out the pizza.  It definitely delivered.  It was Sicilian-style pizza, but with a nice crisp bottom and lots of ooey gooey cheese and toppings.  The sauce was definitely plentiful, and I was full after only one and a half slices.  They only offer a few toppings, and a specialty pizza that changes, but I definitely recommend it.  They have other things on the menu such as burgers and whatnot that I haven’t actually tried, but the pizza was perfect for us!  They have their system down so if you want to eat outdoors, they’ll give you a buzzer, and you can pick up the pizza when it’s ready.  Despite the heat, we braved the outdoors.

But let’s get into the wines, since this is a winery after all!  The wines at Quattro Goomba’s are not my particular favorite.  They’re about average, but your tasting only gets you about 6 wines, as compared to Mediterraneans 10+.  But there’s variety, and on a hot day, they also have a wine slush!  Important things, you know.  Gotta keep cool.  PSA: if you do go to the winery in the hot, hot summer, make sure you’re drinking water and staying hydrated!  I think this is a place we’ll continue to go occasionally, if only because it’s extremely dog-friendly (they allow the dogs inside the tasting room), and because I’d like to try the brewery side at some point.  There’s also more wineries in this area that T and I have yet to try, so it’s a good place to stop and grab some lunch in a nice relaxing day out at the wineries.

I apologize for the lack of photos of the winery itself, but it was hot, and we were visiting with an old friend of T’s parents who was luckily able to join us for a stint.  So that’s another reason to go back, to flush out my review and this post!  Overall rating was 3 chips out of 5 (read: stars).  It’s got a good variety of things to satisfy everyone: beer, wine, food, wine slushies, is dog friendly, and is gorgeous and has lots of parking.  However the actual wines are about average, and the pizza was more memorable than the actual wines in my opinion.
