The full moon cocktail. Think of a drink as black as night. With swirls of iridescent glittering silver swirling through the dark liquid. Punctuated by a full round orb—the moon. Made of ice. Well if you want a unique Halloween cocktail, you’ve got to check out this full moon cocktail! Not only does it live up to its spooky look, it tastes delicious as well! A black raspberry lemonade vodka cocktail that lives up to it’s name: black as the night sky!

The drink itself is a tart black raspberry lemon drop, give or take. Mix together lemon juice, water, black simple syrup, sugar for the base. Then add black raspberry chambord liqueur and vodka to give your Halloween cocktail a punch! Or a claw, really. Werewolves and monsters are much more likely to claw and scratch.

The key here is the black simple syrup. You start with equal parts sugar and water. That’s the base for all simple syrups. But rather than deal with black food coloring or anything of the sort—grab your sprinkles. You want the sugar sanding kind, because they’ll melt evenly and colorfully to make a luscious thick syrup. If you’re content with simple black then that’s all you need.

But if you want a little spunk to your Halloween cocktail, I like to add in some silver sprinkles too. This will give the black mixture more iridescence and will pick up light very subtly when you swirl the drink around. You need some stars in your sky.

As for the moon itself, you need a round ice cube tray. This is the one I purchased off amazon that are just under 2″, 1.8″ to be exact. If you’re making for a party and want to be able to make more round cubes at once, try this listing. Ice is just frozen water so I don’t have too many tips for you–just this one. For the full “full moon cocktail” effect, don’t add the ice cube moon until ready to serve.

To make this for a crowd, just double or triple batch the recipe. With homemade tart and sweet lemonade and an alcoholic kick, this full moon cocktail is sure to please at Halloween. Once you make the black iridescent simple syrup, you’ll have enough for multiple batches, so you might just have to have a party! Store the simple syrup in a sealed container for up to two weeks unrefrigerated, or four weeks refrigerated. It probably will keep longer than that considering it’s just sugar water, but best to be safe when serving to guests.

I hope your night is delicious and the luck of the full moon guides your Halloween spooks and frights!

secrets to success;

  • The key to this cocktail is making your own lemonade! It means you can get the perfect balance of sweet and sour. If it’s a bit too tart, feel free to add some more sugar. But the chambord will add some sweetness.
  • For the full moon, you need a round ice cube! So whip out your ice cube tray and get to making those ice moons.
  • Sprinkle up! Grab your black sprinkles and silver sprinkles and make your simple syrup. Go all black, but if you want some shimmery stars, go liberal with the silver sprinkles.
